Tell us about your new album: 'It's Always Christmas Somewhere' — what made you want to release a holiday album? I have always wanted to make a holiday record. I love Christmas music. We have a hefty box of Christmas vinyl we've collected over the years and there are a lot of obscure holiday albums in that box that we listen to on repeat during the month of December. Every year my husband and I talk about how I really need to make my own holiday record, and this was the year. I was on tour with my friends, The Hackles, last February, and we decided that we had to make the holiday album a reality. We chose a wonderful collection of classics and lesser known songs we love, and spent a couple of days recording the album last spring.
What're you listening to or reading that has you feeling inspired this time of year? I just got home from tour, and haven't quite had the space to settle into a new book just yet. I think diving into a new cook book would be amazing, after not having cooked anything for weeks. And I think in general, taking space away from my phone and staying in the present moment is what I'm striving to do to feel grounded during the darkest time of the year. I've been listening to a lot of Peter Broderick (his song Let It Go was on repeat as I travelled). I've also been listening to my friend Kacey Johansing's new album, Daffodils.
Do you have a favorite cozy ritual for Winter? I drink a lot of tea, and make a lot of soup, slippers are always on my feet.
